For this review, I was required to play and analyze a musical instrument’s interface. For this, I chose my Korg Microkorg XL. The microkorg is a popular compact synthesizer and midi controller. Humans can physically interact with it by pressing the unweighted keys and turning the various dials on the machine. The expression that the instrument gives off can vary depending on what patch is being used, what is being played and how the sound gets modulated. With this device, the player can musically accomplish most things. The feedback that the user receives is the feel of the key press as well as the sound that it makes when plugged into a computer or an amplifier. To optimize this instrument, I would make it so that the effects can be altered on the fly with the user’s feet rather than their hands in an effort to allow the user to play the keyboard with both of their hands and play more complex things.
