A symbolic poster utilizing elements and principles I have learned throughout the year.

My group’s project has many artistic elements that make the image strong and help convey its message. The piece contains a vast amount of motion. The plane, blimp, and balloons sailing through the sky all give the piece a lot of movement and make it far more interesting. The piece has good visual flow. The viewer’s eye moves over the piece from bottom to top seeing the progression of how somebody’s life can change from one way to another. The imagery of the lower half of the image is intentionally diminished and displays a more hand drawn; less realistic style to show the quality of somebody’s life that accepts the norm. The quality of the top half of the image is heightened and more realistic. The forefront of the image displays a child’s hand holding a balloon. This creates a focal point for the image and ties everything together. The image is somewhat symmetrical also adding to the balance factor. The city in the background has unity. This image also helps to balance the piece and weight to the foreground. This gives the piece more depth and a more imaginative feel. The ground is tinted red to help tie the colors of the piece together. The balloon is also red and the background has hints of purple, which is analogous to red on the color wheel.

My group’s piece, titled Unbound, has very deep symbolism. The foreground of the piece depicts a child’s hand and the background depicts a full contrast monochromatic hand drawn city and carnival. It is meant to symbolize people just going along with their lives and doing exactly what they’re supposed to do. The bottom is very monochromatic because it represents how life can seem dull, like the colors, to someone who goes along with their uneventful life and simply accepts it. The colorful sky represents people reaching for their dreams or “aiming for the stars”. The hot-air balloons, blimp and plane represent each one of us individually. The balloon in the forefront is being held by a child and represents the potential within her. The sky and balloon are very colorful to represent how interesting and rewarding it can be to stray away from the norm. The overall message of the pieces is to not just go along with your every life and to reach for the stars and try to achieve your dreams, even if it means cutting some ties and severing some friendships along the way. The quote represents the overall message in two words: “Embrace Potential”. It means that we, as humans, really have the potential to do anything. We can change the world, all that we need to do is try and reach for our dreams. The piece is meant to inspire people to try their best and work hard to achieve their goals.
